Description
This comprehensive single-phase ESS package is designed for installations where greater storage capacity is required. With four Voltsmile V10 Classic batteries (together 20.48 kWh), this system provides sufficient energy storage to optimally control own consumption, grid load and dynamic energy tariffs. Thanks to the smart Victron ESS control in combination with the Cerbo GX, the system is prepared for integration with, for example, dynamic energy contracts.
High storage capacity - ready for smart energy trading
Together, the four Voltsmile V10 Classic batteries provide a gross storage capacity of 20.48 kWh, of which over 19.4 kWh is usable (at 95% usable capacity). This amount makes it possible not only to store solar energy during the day, but also to temporarily buffer cheaply procured power at night or run autonomously for longer periods in case of grid failure.
This makes the system ideal for applications such as:
Dynamic charging at low energy prices (night, surplus)
Discharge during peak consumption or high tariffs
Self-sufficiency in homes or small businesses
Backup of critical consumers
The batteries are distributed over two Voltsmile V-Cabinets, each suitable for two modules. One Voltsmile cable set of 2 metres (25 mm²) is supplied per attachment, connecting both batteries in that rack in parallel to the Lynx Distributor. This keeps the connection balanced and uncluttered.
Victron Multi RS Solar 48/6000 - powerful, quiet and smart
The Victron Multi RS Solar is the heart of the system. This inverter, battery charger and MPPT solar charger in one offers a capacity of 6 kVA and is suitable for 48V battery systems. What makes the Multi RS special is the presence of two completely separate MPPT tracking inputs. Each of these MPPTs supports an input of up to 3 kWp at a voltage range of up to 450 V. This allows a total of up to 6 kWp of solar panels to be connected directly to the Multi RS, split between two orientations or string lengths. Each tracker can easily connect 8 to 10 standard panels of, for example, 435 Wp. In addition to this DC solar coupling, the Multi RS also supports AC coupling, making it possible to integrate an existing PV inverter into the system.
Thanks to modern high-frequency technology, this inverter is extremely light (only 11 kg), energy-efficient and whisper quiet with a maximum noise level of only 43 dB.
Cerbo GX - the brains of the system
For controlling, monitoring and optimising the system, the Cerbo GX is indispensable. This communication centre ensures that all components in the system - from the Multi RS to the batteries, energy meter and PV inverters, if any - work together perfectly. Through the Cerbo GX, the ESS system is intelligently controlled: it determines whether to charge or discharge, whether to supply energy to the grid, and keeps real-time data on the entire system. The Cerbo GX enables monitoring via a local display (GX Touch), via the Victron Remote Portal (VRM) or via direct access via LAN or WiFi.
The set also includes a 0.9-metre UTP cable to connect the Cerbo GX directly to the Multi RS.
Victron energy meter - accurate net metering
An energy meter is essential for an ESS system. This Victron meter is measured via current transformers (CT terminals) and is suitable for both single- and three-phase main connections. On a 3-phase grid, this meter allows the Multi RS (a single-phase inverter), to control based on the total energy consumption of the building. This makes it possible - depending on the ESS configuration - to balance the total power on all phases together to 0 W.
See the following example: ESS is connected to L1 and by compensating phases L2 and L3, it regulates the total power at the distribution panel to 0 W.
L1 | L2 | L3 | Total | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Tax | 100 W | 400 W | 200 W | 700 W |
ESS | -700 W | 0 W | 0 W | -700 W |
Junction box | -600 W | 400 W | 200 W | 0 W |
If the "Individual phase" option is selected, the (1 phase) ESS uses the battery to balance only L1 to 0 W. L2 and L3 are visible on the GX device, but are not used in any way by the ESS.
With a single-phase grid connection, the energy meter will of course simply operate as a measurement point on the L1 phase.
Use in a three-phase grid - smart integration with single-phase Multi RS
Although the system is built around a single-phase inverter, it can operate fine on a three-phase grid connection. There are two ways to integrate the Multi RS:
Option 1: Only AC-in is connected. The inverter is then connected to the grid in parallel. Only one cable is needed, but in case of a power failure, the whole system fails.
Option 2: AC-out 1 is also connected. This output is uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which means that all equipment behind this output continues to function in case of mains failure. For example, the entire L1 phase can be powered via this output. This does require adjustments to the distribution cabinet and a separate cable for AC-out must be laid
Compatibility with AC PV inverters
The system also supports existing grid-connected PV inverters. If the PV inverter is connected to AC-out 1, it continues to operate during grid failure - provided it is properly configured. The Multi RS automatically detects whether there is feed-in via AC PV and, if necessary, increases the frequency to prevent overloading once the batteries are full. This requires proper setting of the PV inverter to respond to frequency increase. A 1:1 rule applies here: the inverter must not have more power than the Multi RS itself (max. 6 kVA).
Voltsmile V10 Classic batteries - powerful, safe and scalable
The two included Voltsmile V10 Classic batteries provide a combined capacity of about 20 kWh. These high-quality LiFePO4 batteries offer high energy density, a life of more than 6000 cycles at 80% DOD and a usable capacity of 95%. Each battery is fully compatible with Victron via CAN bus and comes with an integrated BMS for active protection.
The V10 modules come with a wall mount (V-Cabinet) for two batteries. This Plug & Play mounting system saves floor space, keeps the installation orderly and allows batteries to be hung safely and neatly. On the front of each battery is an SOC indicator that makes it easy to read the remaining charge.
Balanced DC distribution with Lynx Distributor
The four batteries are connected in two pairs to the Lynx Distributor via two Voltsmile cable sets of 2 metres each (25 mm²), one per wall mount. Each cable set is individually fused with a 100 A mega-fuse. A central 50 mm² cable (1 metre) goes from the Lynx to the Multi RS, fused with 150 A. This modular distribution ensures orderly installation, safety and clear diagnostics.
